shiftED is a charity that empowers children and young people through design and making, building creativity, skills, confidence and pathways into future opportunities.
We work towards a shift in education that brings together creative partnerships between schools, communities and artists and designers.
Our Makerspace-based programmes span School and Tailored delivery with teachers, and After-School sessions led by professional artists and designers, all aligned to creative industry specialisms.
ENSURING EQUAL ACCESS FOR ALL
We believe every child and young person should have access to high-quality art and design education. As opportunities decline in schools and beyond, we offer our services free of charge so everyone can take part, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A shift towards MORE DESIGN & MAKING
Too often, theory and practice are disconnected in schools. Our project-based programmes address this by placing the design process at the centre, developing creative, interdisciplinary solutions through purposeful and meaningful briefs.
WHERE REAL-WORLD LEARNING BEGINS
Young people learn best when they are connected to the real world around them. Beyond school, community spaces create opportunities to explore, meet new people, and build natural partnerships that enrich learning. Our Makerspace, based in a public library, is an accessible, community-centred environment designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
