Our Approach

A Partnership-Based Model
We bring schools, creative professionals, and shiftED together to deliver hands-on experiences for children and young people. Our Holborn Library makerspace is an inspiring hub for learning, creativity, and collaboration.

Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Children learn best when their work is meaningful and purposeful. We offer projects based on real-world briefs, typically lasting up to 20 hours. Discover more about our pedagogy here.

A Makerspace in the Community
Learning outside the classroom in our Holborn Library Makerspace lets young people explore, experiment, and create. Being out of school boosts curiosity, collaboration, and confidence. Find out more about our space here.

Our Core Values

Curiosity sparks every journey

At the core of our work is the belief that curiosity is a vital driver of learning and one of the key creative dispositions. Our ultimate goal is to provide children and young people with opportunities for meaningful agency, encouraging them to be inquisitive and ask, ‘What if?’

Learning to make; making to learn

We believe learning is deepest when knowledge and skills are put into practice. Making gives young people the opportunity to apply ideas, experiment, solve problems and learn through doing, while the process of making builds new knowledge, skills and understanding.

Today and Tomorrow

Our projects are built around real-world challenges that matter to young people today. By applying knowledge and skills in practice, participants develop deeper understanding and stronger problem-solving skills. They learn to see both the big picture and the finer details, connecting what they do with why they are doing it.

Hand, Heart and Head

Exploring, planning, making, refining and reflecting is a cycle we experience not only through our hands, but in our heads and hearts too. Making provides a tangible way to practise this cycle of growth—helping us learn how to think, adapt, reflect and try again. We are all, consciously and unconsciously, work in progress.

Different places, spaces and faces

Schools are not the only places where learning and character development occur. A change of environment offers participants a fresh space to flourish, broaden their perspectives, and connect with new people. These interactions encourage collaboration, foster growth, and allow individuals to explore different aspects of themselves in a new context.

Making connections and building community

The workshop is a place where we make connections, where we often learn that we simultaneously need, and can offer help and support to and from others. The act of making something brings up new challenges and offers opportunities to rework old ones. We are explicitly building a community of makers, out of which individual makers will emerge.
